Camelot Unchained is considered a generational descendant to Mark Jacobs’ previous game Dark Age of Camelot and will feature a PvP-centric style that Jacobs now calls “Tri-Realm” Like DAoC, the game borrows from Arthurian folklore, Norse mythology, and Irish mythology while incorporating new and original features. The game is designed to include large-scale PvP battles as the main focus of its gameplay.
Jacobs’s disputes that the game was a spiritual successor to DAoC, even though he claimed that he could technically have done so if he had wanted to do so. This is the story of how you choose one of the three kingdoms and etched your name in the blood of your enemies. This is the story of how you’ve become a hero. If you prefer the valiant Arthurians, the enigmatic Tuatha Dé Danann, or the fiery Vikings, every combat transforms you.
Any building is transforming the world. Any adventure becomes part of the story, raising the strength and influence of your domain by fighting or crafting. Gain strength through using skills instead of accumulating points of experiences, and become strong by great ability. Fight other players for assets or territory, carefully plan attacks and sieges for your empire, and write your story in letters of fire for the tomes of your kingdom. Our game of RvR places the power of choosing in your hands.
Camelot Unchained never attempts to monetize you, never slows down, and won’t be a free-to-play title. We value your loyalty to a premium service game; in exchange, you won’t see thinly-veiled grabs for more revenue. All that Camelot Unchained has to thrive takes talent and commitment, not an open pocket. You’re going to see your decisions change your destiny.
Camelot Unchained is not only a war between the three realms; it is a world full of rich lore, ancient and rewritten. Although dungeon raids are not part of your everyday routine, you can fall deep into The Depths, a development from the mind of Studio co-founder Mark Jacobs that draws influence from the myths of H.R. It’s Giger and H.P. Lovecraft. Lovecraft. It’s a profoundly twisted place, a dark abyss that exists and breathes evil.
If you dare to explore, remember this: even after death, the spirit of a player will torment and pursue other explorers. Designed in-house, the Unchained Engine provides large-scale, real-time fights between players (1000 of them near and personal so far, more coming during Beta 1!), server-based dynamics using Nvidia’s PhysX system, and vast distances, all while procedurally creating terrain on the fly.
